Trade Safely in Embu
We want hyper-local trade to be high-trust, safe, and successful. Read our official safety protocols to safeguard your transactions.
1. Meet in Busy Public Places
Always meet in active, heavily populated public spaces during daylight hours. High-density meeting spots in Embu include the Embu Town Center, active market stalls in Runyenjes, or the main sub-county offices.
2. Inspect the Item Fully Before Paying
Never send money or pay upfront. Inspect the agricultural produce quality, count the macadamia seedlings, or test-ride the Boda Boda to verify it matches descriptions completely before releasing any cash or M-Pesa.
3. Direct M-Pesa or Cash Transactions Only
Avoid complex bank transfers, third-party logistics agents, or promises of shipping. Pay using direct cash or M-Pesa once you hold the verified item in your hand. Double-check the recipient name on the M-Pesa prompt.
4. Protect Your Personal Account Details
Embu Mart admins will never ask you for your M-Pesa PIN, card information, or OTP codes. If anyone sends you a link requesting your secret codes, block and report them immediately.
Immediate Red Flags to Watch Out For
- Sellers requesting upfront 'shipping fees' or 'booking fees' via M-Pesa.
- Offers that are unrealistically cheap (e.g. Grafted Avocados or TVS bikes at 10% market value).
- Sellers refusing to meet in person or refusing to let you inspect the product first.
- Requests to migrate conversations off WhatsApp/SMS to unknown platforms.
